European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System ECTS – system description:

Poznań Medical University of Prince Mieszko I uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System, abbreviated as ECTS. This system allows for the assessment of the student’s workload in a point scale, which they must incur in order to receive credit for a subject, and also allows for the transfer of these results between universities. It allows for the simple and transparent definition of the rules for pursuing studies abroad and the requirements necessary to pass them.

In the case of first-cycle studies, the student is required to obtain 60 ECTS points during the academic year, which is approximately 30 points per semester. The credit point system used at the Poznań Medical University named after Prince Mieszko I is consistent with the guidelines included in the European Guide – Credit Transfer and Accumulation System developed by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System in 2009. ECTS points, which are assigned to individual subjects (lectures, exercises, as well as individual work at home or in the library), determine the workload that the student must incur in order to obtain credit for a given subject in relation to the workload necessary to pass the semester. At the Poznań Medical University named after Prince Mieszko I, obtaining the appropriate number of ECTS points by the student provides the basis for crediting the semester (year) of studies. The ECTS points system does not eliminate grades; grades are used to assess the student’s level of knowledge.

The number of ETCS points is the same for full-time and part-time studies. The total number of ECTS points during the first-cycle studies cannot be less than 180, for second-cycle studies not less than 120.
