Get to know the direction Psychology

Psychology at PAM, named after Prince Mieszko I, is a degree programme that has been developing dynamically since 2017. That year, following a ministerial decision, the Faculty of Social Sciences welcomed the first psychology students in our institution’s more than 20-year history. Our lecturers have extensive academic and professional experience. In addition to the classes included in the curriculum, students have many opportunities to develop their interests through the Student Research Society and the Self-Study Group. You can participate in academic conferences, organise student conferences and publish articles with our institution’s Academic Publishing House. We also encourage students to participate in international exchange programmes, including Erasmus+.

Psychology is an interdisciplinary field of study, offering graduates a wide range of employment opportunities and prospects for further professional development, such as through postgraduate study. The knowledge and skills acquired whilst studying Psychology are useful in many fields, including: healthcare, the media, recruitment, management, training, market research, psychoeducation and psychoprophylaxis, social work, mediation, work within the justice system, the police and the prison service, and education and upbringing. Graduates are prepared for independent psychological practice and for working within interdisciplinary teams. They will find employment, amongst other places, in psychological and educational counselling centres and in the education sector (upon obtaining the relevant qualifications), in care and educational institutions, hospitals, centres providing individual and family counselling, centres working with older people, etc.

Studying with us is not just about acquiring knowledge, but above all about consciously shaping your own career path. Our programme combines a solid academic foundation with practical experience. We organise our classes so that our students can balance their studies with their personal and professional lives, in line with the principle:

ARE YOU WORKING? ARE YOU STUDYING? YOU DON’T HAVE TO CHOOSE!

The Individual Study Programme (IOS) allows you to reconcile both objectives.

The nature of practical classes

A psychology degree at our university is not just about theory from textbooks. We ensure that our students develop key professional skills right from the start through an intensive programme of practical classes, workshops and simulations.

  • Interpersonal training: you will learn active listening, empathy and how to build relationships with patients and clients.
  • Simulated psychological interviews: you will conduct your first controlled diagnostic interviews under the guidance of experienced supervisors.
  • Dealing with a difficult customer: you’ll learn how to respond in crisis and conflict situations.

Diagnostic and instrumental laboratories

  • Psychological tests: you’ll discover licensed, state-of-the-art tools for assessing intelligence, personality and career aptitude.
  • Case Study Analysis: you will work on real, anonymised case studies from the fields of clinical, educational and health psychology.
  • Research design: you will learn how to design questionnaires yourself and analyse consumer and market behaviour.

Work placements and study visits

  • Partner organisations: you will undertake your work placements in hospitals, psychological and educational counselling centres, crisis intervention centres, educational institutions and foundations.
  • Practising lecturers: your lecturers will include, amongst others, practising psychotherapists, psychologists and mediators.

Organisation of classes in the various modes of study

We tailor the way we run our classes to suit your daily schedule and commitments.

The course is mainly taught on campus. A hybrid format (online, e-learning) is permitted.
